This course is ideal for you if you have an interest in manicure treatments wishing to gain a Level 2 qualification in manicure.

You should be well groomed, motivated and be able to communicate at all levels. You should be dexterous and well-coordinated. You will also need basic computer skills Students to receive advice and guidance via phone or email with either Nicky Maycock or Lindsay Curson before enrolment can take place.

The units you will study are likely to include: Manicure techniques, including relevant anatomy and physiology Health and safety procedures Appropriate legislation All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn. During your time at College, the emphasis will be placed on practical aspects of the course. You also need time to study, to practice at home and set time aside for revision for exams, assignments and homework. Please be aware that you will be expected to set aside a minimum of three hours per week to study and practice at home and there is a small element of on-line study. Initially, students will work on each other. They will be assessed on external clients who will pay for their treatment. Students should be prepared to allow other students to practice on them. Please note that should you provide a client for a practical assessment a 1 registration fee is required, plus the cost of the treatment. In line with Northampton College's policy on Equal Opportunities, classes and the client base may be of mixed gender. Please also note Manicure and Health and Safety are separate units, Health and Safety will be covered before moving onto the manicure unit.

Students are required to attend all classes, which will run in the evening from 5.45pm until 8.45pm.

You will be required to bring pens and a notebook with you to every lesson. You will be given packages to assist you with your qualification; these must also be brought with you to every lesson. Uniform and kit will need to be purchased and these and appropriate dress code will be discussed with you during your advice and guidance session. You are required to purchase a small ring binder and dividers for your portfolio of evidence.

Students can go on to complete L2 Award in Nail Technology, L2 Award in Gel Nails before looking for employment.
